Entre those Murs

Add me and McParty and you have tonight

Add me and McParty and you have tonight

Spent the evening at the Tavern on the Green with McParty and a bunch of rich old people who made the trip out for the free food and booze.

We sat outside in the rain beside the Godzilla topiary while the rocks pumped out creepy carnival music. Even without it I would have felt like I was going nuts. If I had a rich and tacky aunt with a bar in her basement it would probably look a lot like this. No place should ever have that many mirrors.

It was my second time “covering” the opening night festivities of the New York Film Festival and this time the film was Palme d’Or winner Entre les murs (The Class) by Laurent Cantet. It’s the story of a year in the life of a middle-school classroom in Paris’ 20th told by real-life students and their real-life teacher. (Last year was Wes Anderson’s significantly more star-studded Darjeeling Limited.)

The best part of the night was the fact that 10 of the real-life kids in the movie made it to the premiere. In fact, Souleymane was behind me in the dessert line and Esmeralda almost ran into McParty.

I hope they had fun.
