This Christmas, I got a killer pair of Opening Ceremony hiking boots. Once I finally broke those babies in, I was totally bummed to realize I have no idea how to style them. With the recent wintry weather, wearing substantial boots are a must, but what can I do with these babies? Wear them with skirts and it’s a one-way ticket to cankle city.

Taking a cue from Ms. Elaine Benes, I’m all about pairing the booties with big barrettes, over-sized denim tops, cozy Cosby sweaters and blazers with shoulder pads this winter. The result isn’t the most flattering or sexy look in the world, but the comfortable, masculine-feminine mix is great for the workplace.
While I’m (suddenly?) all about extreme costume dressing, sometimes you’ve gotta mix it up.
So throw on the boots, a pair of drainpipe jeans, a plaid work shirt or polo and denim jacket et voilà, rude boy city.
