Paris, j’taime

French Prez. Nicolas Sarkozy wants to give Paris un petit facelift. I’ve always imagined I’d live in Paris one day, even though I didn’t love the city when I visited. In fact, when I was 12, my “Skills for Adolescents” class was given the assignment of describing where we saw ourselves in 10 years. Most answers were over the fireman/construction/marine biologist variety. Mine got me sent to the guidance counselor: It’s black and white. I’m sitting in a bay window talking on the telephone. The telephone is black and has a cord. I’m smoking a cigarette and looking out over Paris. And … scene.

It’s kind of cool to see cities taking the inatiative to look to the future. Bloomberg’s PlaNYC2030 plan hasn’t made drastic changes to the city’s profile, but there have been some nice changes. Like this one, right by my office.
