Zach Morris’ recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon really got me thinking. Aside from a newfound appreciation for Mr. MPG, it also made me wonder: Where have all the theme songs gone?
Exhibit A:
It used to be, all you needed was a 30-second jingle and you’d be all caught up to any show.
What’s a Fresh Prince? Oh, just some guy from Philly who was just chillin out, maxin, relaxin all cool ’til he got in one little fight and his mom got scared and sent him to live with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.
What the hell is this grown guy named Charles doing hanging out with a bunch of little kids? No worries. He’s in charge, of their days and their nights, like he’s one of the family.
Why is such a motely group of randoms on this uncharted desert isle? Well…it was supposed to be a three-hour tour…
How’d that family get so big? See, this lady with three girls met this Brady fella with three sons, and the rest is history.
Simple as that. Today’s themes are not cutting it. It’s time to bring back the theme song.
