…and be totally fine. when you work in the book biz you come across a lot of bad writing. and the problem with bad writers is they don’t read that much. otherwise they’d know that they all use these words to death. (bloggers, i’m lookin’ at you.):

decidedly (adv.)
cool (n.) as in “downtown cool”
ultra- (prefix)
singluar (adj., e.g. singluar style)
signature (adj., ibid.)
carefully curated
——
= bad writing

to end on a positive note. here are two words and phrases i’d like to see more oF:
relevant (adj. see: cool, with it)
yeah, right

I’m going to write Joan Rivers a letter

I just finished watching Charlie Rose’s interview with Joan Rivers. And after hearing her talk about books, I want to write her a letter.

I think a lot about writing people letters, but never do it. I was going to tell Glenn O’Brien about my Moleskine. I was going to tell Prime Meats about my Mom-Mom’s rouladen. And I was going to write William Vollmann about everything.

Now, I’m going to write to Joan Rivers about Vollmann.
