A design proposal for an ADA-accessible space for UT freshmen, offering a mix of public and private spaces that can accommodate an annual end-of-year celebration. The project statement completed the following three prompts.

The purpose of a university landscape is…
...to provide a forum that facilitates the development of all members of the university community.

This purpose can best be fulfilled by achieving the following goals:
1. Creating opportunities for interaction
2. Offering spaces for reflection
3. Providing moments of inspiration

The purpose of the Honors Quad courtyard is…
...to serve as an anchor that enables student residents to reach their full potential.

This purpose can best be fulfilled by achieving the following goals:
1. Creating a comfortable, safe home base within the wider community
2. Offering student residents a sense of agency
3. Providing a continuum of experience types ranging from lively to reflective

The major space created in this courtyard is to allow…
...for an annual goodbye picnic for residents of the honors quad.

With more than 11,000 square feet of open turf, the circular grass lawn will welcome the 500 residents of the Honors Quad for a goodbye picnic at the end of each school year. In this main space, students will celebrate the end of their freshman year with barbeque on the paved minor space and live music on asphalt drive, set against the picturesque backdrop of a blooming grove of American smoke trees (Cotinus obovatus).
